Joe and I never used to celebrate Valentine's before kids, passively protesting the commercialism and making an earnest effort to show our appreciation for one another often throughout the year.
With the kids around, it's hard not to get sucked in by all of the crafty red and pink projects. We make love mobiles. Long ago I instituted a Love Bug tradition and now the spritely, sneaky fellows visit daily leaving love notes and treats for the eager, watchful kids.
Then there is the Preschool Program. Joe took some time from work to watch the sweetest little performance. Then the four of us (Maya had her school party instead) went out to lunch and took in a movie at home. What a day.
The unforeseen icing on my Valentine's cake was a volunteer gig Max and I had at the memory care unit of a local nursing home. I'll tell more about it over at Doing Good Together tomorrow, if you follow that blog too. If not, suffice it to say that sharing his baby sweetness with those older folks was remarkably fun. If they remembered nothing else, they all remembered their babies. Max brought those memories to life for them. It was a joy to see. I even made a new friend, so we'll definitely be going back.
